Humans and People

I have always seen people
in terms of character
some were characters to embrace
and others were troubled
or lost

I have always met people
in terms of trust
some trust was rewarded
in friendship, or scorned
and I have been burned

I have always looked to people
I could learn from
some in ways never expected, often surprised
but in delight

I have always admired people
for their strengths and openness
listened to stories
frown upon lies
yet, never judged

and for all this time I have
never seen people in terms of skin tone or "color"

It is in this way that I am
in this world, but not from it...
